Orthodontic treatment can improve more than just the look of your smile. Misaligned bites and crowding can lead to a multitude of problems, including increased plaque buildup, gingivitis, speech impediments, and even TMJ and sleep apnea.
Once you’ve completed your initial consultation, you can book your first appointment to get your braces placed. In some cases, patients may not feel ready to begin the treatment process yet.
Waiting to Start Treatment
At Gray Orthodontics, we understand that choosing to start orthodontic treatment is a big decision. Making this investment in your oral health takes time and money. We encourage you to weigh the pros and cons to make the best decision for you and your family.
If you decide to wait to start treatment, we will save your treatment plan for when you are ready to begin. However, if you wait a year or more to begin, Dr. Gray may need to re-evaluate your teeth to check for any changes in tooth alignment and bite. Over time, teeth continue to move and change positions, so your treatment plan may need to change as well.
Disadvantages to Postponing Treatment
We understand that life happens—emergencies and other life events can impact your family as well as your budget. If you need to put off your treatment until a later time, just let us know and we will gladly send a notification closer to when you’re ready to get started.
If you do decide to postpone treatment, it’s important to know that you may require more invasive treatment later down the road. We strongly encourage our patients to start as early as possible. This will give you lasting results faster and for the least amount of money. For our young patients, we recommend Phase One treatment so we can monitor your child’s orthodontic needs and begin braces when they are truly ready.
